UPDATED - Charging Issues & Fixes

nabi 2 TABLET USERS:
If you're having an issue charging your child's nabi 2 Tablet, please check out nabi's Troubleshooting Guide.  Tap the Charging & Power On option, then choose one of the four scenarios that best fits your situation and walk through the easy to follow steps to resolve the issue.  In case you require a replacement, you'll now have to call nabi cares at 1-855-ASK-NABI (1-855-275-6224) to request one.
Canadian customers please reach out for support on the nabi Tablet Facebook page.

For those customers living in Ireland or the United Kingdom, please e-mail nabicares@nabitablet.co.uk with the subject line "Broken Charger".  Make sure to include your name, shipping address, phone number, and tablet serial number in the body of the e-mail and someone will reach out to you to provide assistance.

nabi Jr / nabi XD TABLET USERS:
Fuhu has made replacement 4' and 10' braided fabric charger cables for the nabi Jr and nabi XD tablets available for purchase through the nabi Shop.
NOTE: This option provides a replacement cable only and does not include a charger.

TIPS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF BREAKAGE:
•  Do not let young children play with the tablet while it is charging.
•  A parent should always remove or plug in the charging connector.
•  Let older children know the risk and that they have to be careful when playing with a tablet that is plugged in for charging.

SIMPLE GUIDELINES FOR CHARGING LITHIUM-BASED BATTERIES:
•  Ensure that the battery is initialized by charging it for at least 4-6 hours before turning it on for the first time.
•  A portable device should be turned off while charging. This allows the battery to reach the threshold voltage unhindered and reflects the correct saturation current responsible to terminate the charge. A parasitic load may confuse the charger.
•  Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better.
•  Chargers use different methods for “ready” indication. The light signal may not always indicate a full charge.
•  Before prolonged storage, apply some charge to bring the pack to about half charge.

Universal models can be cheaper than replacements from the factory, and they may be able to charge multiple devices you own. However, some dangers exist when you use an unauthorized laptop charger that you should consider them before choosing a third-party option.

Double check your packaging, as a number of parent have complained about this just to find that it either fell out or was still in the box. The power adapter from the original nabi Tablet will work, just make sure you are plugging it into the power port and not the speaker port.

my blackcord was not in the box and i was told by the place i bought it from that they cannot do anything what do i do now

We were trying to use the white cord, thank goodness I found the black on in the box and it is charging now. But we bought the protection plan from Walmart in case we had issues.

the power cord to the nabi broke the first time my 7 yo used it. how do i get another one

Should I be able to charge the white USB through my computer? It is not showing a charge that way. Do I need a driver.

No. Only the black USB cable can be used to charge the tablet.

Hi, do we have a UK form to fill in and replace our chargers? - the linked form is only for US based submissions????

Carefully read the post, there is a form that you need to fill out, not an e-mail address to contact. If you fill out the form you should have a replacement within 4 business days.

I purchased a Nabi 2 for my daughter in the UK last week, but we live in the republic of Ireland. Pelase advise whom I should contact regarding a faulty charger.

Hi Sandra! I actually just updated this on the post.

British & Irish customers please e-mail nabicares@nabitablet.co.uk with the subject line "Broken Charger". Please include your name, shipping address, phone number, and tablet serial number in the body of the e-mail and someone will reach out to you to provide assistance. You can also reach out for support on the UK & IE nabi Tablet Facebook page.

I sure hope the Nabi3 uses a standard micro USB charger. A proprietary charger is THE glaring design flaw in the current models and almost put me off buying one.

My child has lost his Nabi Jr. charger. Is there away I can replace it.

Unfortunately Fuhu does not yet have a replacement program available or the chargers available through their online store. I'd recommend e-mailing angie@nabicares.com with your issue to see if she can help you get a replacement.

the usb tip was broken off the charger and I bought my nabi 2 while i was on vacation and I live in the Bahamas.....there isnt any option for countries.so how would i go about replacing the charger or is there a universal charger that will work

Unfortunately the only way to have the charger replaced is to have it shipped to someone in the United States and then have them ship it to you.

I did ship it to an US address through a company called xpress it (similar to fedex). But now they are asking me for an invoice number in order to bring it to the Bahamas(probably to clear customs). So what must i do now?

we thought we had a charger problem . . . and may have. But our REAL problem was the receptacle inside the unit that the charger prong plugged into . . . that apparantely has come loose. Anybody hear of this problem? I imagine that fixing it would not be worth it? Would it have some kind of warranty? (we purchased around christmas in 2012

You can go through the replacement process for the issue you mentioned, simply copy the link below and work through the process.

http://www.nabitablet.com/support/products/nabi2/get-a-replacement/nabi2-charger/issue3

So glad I just found this. I bought 3 nabi 2's for my kids last christmas and they have barely used them. They never charged right. They took forever to charge and never actually charged all the way to full. Hopefully a new charger will work.

I requested a new charger cord for my son's Nabi2 through the link above. Received the charger in the mail 3 days later. Very pleased with the response by Fuhu and my son continues to enjoy his tablet. He's had it for over a year now and uses it almost daily. Very good investment in my opinion.

Hello. Our nabi2 won't charge. It was in storage for some months. Now when we plug it in to the charger, the light goes red as expected, then hours later shows green. But when we try to turn it on, it shows a low battery indicator. What is the problem? Is the battery dead? The charger?

I bought my granddaughter nabi jr for xmas and the charger end that plugs into the nabi is shreaded and it wont charge can't find a new charger very angry. I won't never buy anything else from this worthless company.

Ibought 3 nabis at Christmas and all three are broken. Will i get all 3 replaced?

Hi Misti!

While requesting 3 replacement chargers might get flagged as unusual, you should still receive them if you enter the requests individually with the tablets Serial Numbers.

Please make sure to follow the steps listed above to help prevent charger cords from break.

Cheers!

I need to purchase 2 nabi Jr chargers is there a place I can do that?

If you are looking for both a charger and cord, then you would need to purchase the nabi 2 Charger Kits and the nabi Jr/nabi XD Charger Cables from the nabi Shop, as listed above. You would use the Charger Cables to attach to the nabi Jrs and the nabi 2 Charger to connect to your power outlet.

Cheers!

I just need the cords I have the charging adapters. So would I just purchase the cables from the nabi shop?

Yes. Go to the following link, choose the cable length you desire (4' or 10') and then purchased the nabi Jr. & nabi XD Charging Cable listed.

The Nabi chargers do not fit in the Nabi's they are very loose and do not charge because they just fall out, I will be calling the Nabi number and get a free replacement, because I was told it was faulty, my grandson cant wait till we can get a cord that fits.

I have the nabi jr since jan 2014 and now it will not turn on. It is fully charged and show a green robot with a red exclamation mark on top of it. I even try to factory reset it but it will not work. Please help?

I, like many others, had a problem with the charger for my Nabi 2 within a couple months of purchase. I went through the process to request a replacement, and while you are claiming here they arrive within four business days, that was over three weeks ago. The only communication I have received back from Fuhu is an auto generated email from "Veeneet" thanking me for my request and telling me to contact him with any further questions. After the second week of not receiving a replacement charger, I emailed "Veeneet" to ask when I could expect delivery of my charger. That email, and several since have been ignored. Obviously, Fuhu is aware of the problems with the chargers they sent out with their product, because they are replacing them for free with no questions asked. Who do I need to contact to resolve this issue, we are going on nearly a month without being to use our Nabi 2. Thanks!

I have a Nabi that is 15 months old and it wont charge! I have purchased a new charger and it still will not charge. I have connected Nabi direct and they say there is nothing they can do! We have purchased the headphones and carry case so spent lots on this... should something that is only 15 months old not be fit to use!! Nabi you are a discrace!

Elizabeth,

Sorry got your frustration with Fuhu and their fulfillment company. Please message me through my Facebook page (link at top right of the page) providing your contact information and I will present your issue behind the scenes.

Colin,

Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately the manufacturer's warranty is for only 12 months, so it is up to Fuhu's call center to access the situation. They use to offer a paid replacement option, but I no longer see that on their newly formatted web site. Please feel free to message me through Facebook with your contact information and I'll present your case behind the scenes.

I've questioned behind the scenes, as to why the link no longer works. Please message me through my Facebook page, so that I can respond directly to the issue when it it addressed.

we have a nabi 2 that the charge light wont even turn on. I am using the black usb cable and have tried plugging into the wall and even into usb port on my laptop, the charge light will still not turn on. Anyone else see this with thier nabi 2?

My son's Nabi 2 has been having charging issues for a while. It started with the charger having to be put in just right to charge. Then it started the red/green blinking light. We ended up getting a replacement charger which worked a few times now the light says it is charging but even if you leave it plugged in all night it still hasn't charged in the AM. We are using the black cord, I have tried different plugs including the USB. I have held the power button in too. Is this a charger issue again or a battery issue? Thank you, Mom of a very upset 6 year old.

I'm worried after seeing previous posts about this issue. I called Fuhu. The tech was pleasant; but, after explaining things & seeing posts, I wonder whether my issue will get resolved. I am an experienced tech that supports 250+ devices in a small business. In 4 of my past 12 prof. tech years (when tablets started taking off where I work), I figured out how to resolve most SW & a few HW issues. I purchased a Nabi 2 a month ago for my son. It worked fine for 3 wks. The 1st wk the battery drained fast (w/in 2 hrs despite 8+-hr-charge sessions offered in instructions) - no web surfing/streaming, lite gaming, etc. I figured it was the OS settling in - sometimes necessary in tablets/smartphones. I convinced my concerned wife to give the Nabi leeway. 3 days ago, I put an armorsuit screen protector on the Nabi. If you haven't tried them before, they're excellent. A wet-type screen protector, installation requires a device to be off & unplugged during install & at least 1 day afterward to allow curing & ensure evaporation should any spray get in the chassis, which I did, & , in addition to my own devices, have done dozens of times on other tablets/phones - w/out incident. I give all my devices 2 days to cure to be safe. After waiting, I asked my wife to power up the Nabi. Despite being charged before powering it off to put on the protector, the Nabi showed low battery. I thought, "that's weird for only 2 days of sitting," but, having faith, I convinced my wife, again, we need to charge the Nabi. To be continued due to character limits...

The Nabi showed the charging battery graphic & the indicator went from red to green as expected. Today, my wife powered on the Nabi. My son played w/ it for 30 minutes. It registered low battery &, w/in 5 minutes, shut down. I tried to charge it, this time to no avail. I tried all the tricks of the Android trade, checked Fuhu's TS steps, & the web. Nothing worked. I call Fuhu CS. The tech told me the 1st step is to send a replacement charger (free of charge at least). Nabi techs will know more than I about the Nabi's internal workings, as I'm not voiding the warranty by opening it. Still, I informed her I have a hard time believing it's the charger, as the light is on but the tablet doesn't show a charging graphic - as it used to - & as do all tablets I ever worked on. The situation screams defect - not 1 w/ the charger, but something else entirely. Why would the indicator light if the charger wasn't attempting to charge the device? I hope to be proven wrong. I'll gladly eat humble pie to make my son happy if the charger replacement works. But, the Nabi is new (less than 3 wks OOB w/o a single drop or mishandle). I treat all tech (as do my kids) w/ kid gloves. My son doesn't charge the Nabi, nor does my wife as she says it's my job as the family geek (err, umm, tech). Defectives happen. I get the benefits/drawbacks of mass prod; but, please (as nice as the tech was & despite likely having to follow a TS script like most) don't insult my intelligence by telling me this is a charger issue. The free charger is a great start, but based on the desc. given, I believe this warranted escalation. While I'm usually understanding, being tech... I will be upset IF the charger arrives, doesn't work, & my son has to wait longer for his present to work when we have to RMA the Nabi to Fuhu & accept a refurb (as I was told would occur if the charger didn't resolve the issue) to replace our new-non-functional device. Despite the placard in the box reading "Do not contact the retailer," instead of waiting a wk (or more) for a charger that might not come &/or won't work, I'm considering taking it back to the store where I purchased it & praying they'll accept it as defective -- despite having no way to factory restore & wipe personal data. Fuhu, please help we forlorn folks of nabi-less youngsters. Earn back the trust of the masses. If you don't, we'll have to start looking at other android devices or, dare I say it, IOS. ;)

If it is still within the time period to return it to the retailer, that is what I would recommend doing, do not wait for the replacement charger.

bought 3 Nabi's for my kids for Christmas 2013... 2 aren't working now.... I'm absolutely disgusted by this... and one of the chargers broke as mentioned in other comments. I'm a full time student (and single mom)... I don't have time to deal with this... I want my money back... I'd rather go by an iPad that they could all share than have these Nabi's anymore. If you can help me then I might change my mind about it... but I'm honestly discouraged now because of all the other problems mentioned above. Need someone to call me or something... the Nabi Jr. I have hasn't worked since Feb. and the Nabi 2 hasn't worked for at least a month now. Nabi Jr. charges but won't go past the sick Android symbol... and the Nabi 2 has a green blinking light when plugged in.

Kelli, my first step as a perturbed parent was to contact customer support... http://www.nabitablet.com/support/products (1-855-ASK-NABI). Their response was to send me a charger. Like I should have when I was on with the attendant, and as I would've when I called them back had I not been able to return it to the store, I would ask for a supervisor/manager and try to escalate the issue. I was fortunate in that my son's Nabi2 was still within the box store's warranty. I returned it last night, charged the new one overnight and will see how long this one lasts - hopefully more than three weeks (and, more, preferably until my son gets tired of it/it's too outdated to use).

FYI, Nabis have a year warranty from date of sale http://www.nabitablet.com/legal/warranty .

For the dead android with the red triangle, try a hard reset (which completely wipes personal data and sets the Nabi back to factory if the recovery partition isn't corrupted). A video walkthrough is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-bamfAKvgk . This method doesn't affect your warranty.

If Nabi techs (who seem generally willing to help) can't help, all is not necessarily lost. Google "Fuhu Nabi 2 NabiLab Youtube". Research thoroughly. Any actions involving Nabilab can brick your device and WILL void your warranty (but, if you can't get help, what do you really have to lose?). Use this method only as a last resort. Neither I nor Fuhu will be responsible for anything you do to modify your device. Info offered is for educational purposes only. I am in no way associated with Fuhu - just a parent trying to help another parent. Remember, Google is your friend. ;)

The green blinking light seems like a charger/port issue, (of which there appear to be many), based on web research. I'm assuming you're using the black charger (the new kind w/o the USB end) and not the white USB data cable, which won't charge your device. When you talk with Nabi techs, make sure to ask for a free charger. Also, since the charger ports are flimsy, (with the Nabi powered off) and while on a flat secure surface when charging the Nabi, wiggle the plug that goes into the Nabi very very very (did you get the "very" part?) gently (use feather-light pressure) to see if you get a solid red light at any point. If you do, the charging port is damaged and the device will need sent for repair. In all my years, I have never seen such a flimsy charger and charging port on a tablet, which is a shame as it's a decent tablet otherwise. There should be close-to-zero play when you insert the plug into a port. Because there is so much give, you should never let a child charge it and ensure that older kids take great care in doing so if you allow them. B/c of the investment, my son won't be charging this device. I will. I wish you (and everyone else here) the best.

Purchased a nabi 2 last christmas and the charger is not working how can i replace it?

I bought my grandson a nabi 2 for Christmas 2013, his charger is no longer charging, the light blinks red then green. Now it won't turn on at all! Who do I contact about this issue?

Lisa

I am having the same issue, I purchased a nabi jr (nick jr limited addition) it quit working- got a replacement & it will not turn on-either they make it right or I am going to contact an attorney!

Picked up an adapter assembly, cut the old plug off, attached the assembly, added an adapta plug A and used lots of electric tape to secure the connections. Charge is at 50% at the moment. I think the problem is a poor designed tablet not allowing the plug to insert all the way and a bad pin inside. The adapta plug A fits very well over the pin and a bit longer. I had to get an adapter assembly because most over the counter chargers are only 1.5Amp and the Nabi won't even charge unless it had 2Amp. Replacing the plug took 2 minutes and 12 dollars. Good luck!
